As natural and alternative medicine grows in popularity, chiropractors are increasingly in demand. Job prospects in the field are good, the U.S. Department of Labor reports, and the vast majority of chiropractors are able to work for themselves.
Some chiropractors also specialize in other, similar fields, including nutrition, orthopedics, sports injuries and neurology. Job prospects are even better for chiropractors that have more than one specialty.
About Chiropractic School #
Chiropractors must pursue a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. The four-year program requires a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, lab and clinical experience. At least 90 hours of undergraduate work is a prerequisite, although a bachelor degree is not. However, most applicants do have a bachelor degree.
After graduation, chiropractors must pass state and national exams, including a four-part test by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
