Sorting through a huge stack of resumes is a difficult and time-consuming process. If you're a recruiter or human resources professional, it's a huge part of your workload. What if the process could be made faster, simpler and more effective?

Recruiting software, also referred to as an applicant tracking system, automates many of the most tedious tasks related to finding the right employees. It matches job candidates to available jobs based on skills, experience, educations, geographic location - and more.

About Recruiting Software #

Recruiting software allows you to import resumes from multiple sources and then use keyword and data searches to quickly pinpoint attractive candidates. Search by title, accomplishments, salary sought, or technical skills. Quickly find candidates within a certain location or only those with management experience.

Most recruiting software also includes a planning function that allows you to keep track of appointment times and interviews with the potential candidates.

As with all software, you'll have to choose between in-house and cloud-based products:

  • In-house software is installed on your computers, resides locally on your company server and is managed by your in-house IT staff.
  • Cloud-based software, also known as Software-as-a-Service, is hosted on the provider's server and accessed through the web. No IT staff is required to maintain it.

Larger businesses tend to opt for in-house software in order to have greater control over the system and its operation, while most small businesses choose cloud-based software.

Recruiting Software Average Costs #

In-house software usually costs anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 per user. Enterprise-level systems for companies with 10 or more users usually cost $15,000 to $30,000 or more. You can also expect to pay several thousand dollars in setup fees.

Other potential costs include:

  • Installation fees
  • Training costs of $500 to $1,500 per day
  • Ongoing technical support
  • Annual licensing fees

With cloud-based software, you'll be billed for the service on a monthly or annual basis. Expect to spend about $500 to $2,000 per user per year. Many providers charge on the high end of that price range for the first license and then a discounted price for additional licenses. For example, you might pay $2,000 for a one-user license but just $5,000 for a 10-user package.
