Don't let the name fool you: Despite their size, compact track loaders are highly powerful machines. Compact track loaders are ideal for working in difficult terrain while still offering the agility of a small machine.

Compact track loaders are very similar to skid steer loaders, but they offer greater performance. Essentially, compact track loaders consist of a skid steer body mounted on heavy-duty tracks instead of wheels. The tracks offer greater stability in mud or loose terrain.

Compact Loader Average Costs #

The price of a compact track loader is influenced by several factors, including the size of the machine, its horsepower and the features and options you select. The smallest compact track loaders begin at around $40,000, but most models fall in the $50,000 to $75,000 range.

  • The Cat 259B Series 3 compact track loader with 71 hp has a base price of around $52,000.
  • The larger Cat 289C with 82 hp begins at around $74,000.
  • The Kubota SVL 75 with rubber tracks, 75 hp and an air-conditioned cab begins at around $53,000.
  • The larger Kubota SVL 90 with rubber tracks, 90 hp and an air-conditioned cab begins at around $65,000.

Keep in mind that the prices listed above are base prices. Adding additional features and options can quickly add hundreds or thousands to your total purchase price.

If you're on a tight budget, consider buying a used compact track loader. Machines that are just a few years old in good condition often sell for $20,000 to $30,000.

Compact Track Loader Features and Accessories #

There's a long list of optional features and accessories that can add to the total purchase price of your compact track loader. Attachments are among the most expensive, generally running $1,000 to $4,000 each. They include:

  • Buckets
  • Brooms
  • Dozer blades
  • Rakes
  • Chippers
  • Hydraulic hammers
  • Augers

Most base models are sold without luxury features that make the machine more comfortable for your operators. Some of the most popular include:

  • Enclosed cabs: $3,000 to $6,000
  • Seat upgrades: $300 to $500
  • Radios: $300 to $750

Almost all new machines come with a warranty. But if you'd like the added protection of an extended warranty, plan on shelling out a few thousand dollars more. Most extended warranties are priced from $2,500 to $5,000 for an extra year or two of coverage.
