United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) has been making steel for more than 100 years and retains its headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, America's original "Steel City." By maintaining production facilities throughout the United States that are located near key construction markets, U.S. Steel ensures cost effectiveness for customers.

Not only that, but U.S. Steel believes in building long-term customer relationships, so it will be there before, during, and after the sale. Keep reading to find out more about how your business can benefit from high-quality U.S. Steel buildings and to view general pricing information.

The Benefits of U.S. Steel Buildings #

A U.S. Steel building provides a number of advantages over a building made from conventional construction materials, including:

  • Strength and durability: Steel has a better strength to weight ratio than any other building material. U.S. Steel metal buildings can resist moisture, dry rot, pests, and even extreme conditions such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and heavy snow.
  • Value: Steel's durability gives it a very attractive life cycle cost, as it is a virtually maintenance free building material. And because steel framing, siding, and roofing components are pre-engineered, U.S. Steel prefab metal buildings can be up and running much sooner than a traditional building—with fewer labor costs.
  • Earth friendly: Steel is the most highly-recycled material on the planet, and according to U.S. Steel, one-quarter of steel framing is composed of at least 25% recycled content. As a result, you can be sure that your U.S. Steel metal building is creating a minimal environmental impact. And due to the fact that nearly 65% of North America's steel scrap is recycled each year, when your steel building finally needs to be replaced, it won't end up in a landfill.

U.S. Steel Buildings Technology #

U.S. Steel has developed patented metallic coatings to protect its steel building kits and roofing and siding components from the elements. Those receiving the federal government's "Energy Star" rating are:

  • GALVALUME: This unique type of steel is coated with an aluminum-zinc alloy that also contains small amounts of silicon. Metal buildings treated with GALVALUME enjoy superior protection against corrosion, particularly on exposed edges and areas prone to scratches.
  • ACRYLUME: ACRYLUME is a clear organic polymer that is applied over GALVALUME coating, thereby increasing its performance and applicability. In addition to excellent corrosion resistance, ACRYLUME provides long-lasting heat reflectivity and minimizes discoloration on steel metal buildings.
  • COR-TEN AZP: These pre-painted steel sheets improve solar reflectivity for a metal building, eliminate unsightly staining from storm water runoff, and are composed of highly-recycled content that is also completely recyclable.

U.S. Steel Buildings Average Costs - Samples #

U.S. Steel building prices are subject to change due to fluctuations in material and labor costs, in addition to individual supplier pricing, local building codes, and customer needs. Due to these factors, the following metal building prices are only intended to serve as a general overview.

  • Pre-engineered steel buildings from U.S. Steel generally cost around $15 to $20 per square foot, including the price of metal components, delivery, a concrete slab, and assembly. More finished buildings, however, or those with greater customization, could cost as much as $20 to $40 per square foot or more.

  • Material costs for U.S. Steel prefab steel buildings might run you around $5 to $15 per square foot. For smaller buildings, the price could be around $10 to $20 per square foot, while larger buildings are typically cheaper, at around $5 to $10 per square foot.

  • Additional costs for do-it-yourself steel buildings include pouring a foundation ($4 to $8 per square foot), labor ($4 to $10 per square foot), and insulation ($1 to $3 per square foot).

  • Consider what actual customers nationwide have paid for metal buildings to better understand what U.S. Steel metal building kits might cost:

  • About $2,500 for a 12x16 horse barn

  • About $8,000 for a 10x10x12 equipment storage facility with insulated roof

  • About $15,000 for a 30x50 for a 2-car garage with a workshop and insulation

  • About $20,000 for a 50x100 steel building with a 14x16 door opening

  • About $40,000 for a 60x80 building with insulation, multiple windows and doors
